GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - An overflowing manhole near Noord Street in Graaff-Reinet at the Middelburg side of town is literally causing a stink.
The sewage flows past informal traders selling their wares on the pavement and people can’t avoid stepping in the filth.
The stream of sewage eventually disappears into a stormwater drain in Market Square opposite Urquhart House Museum.
Councillor Ricardo Smith has reported the problem to the Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality, but the drain is yet to be unblocked.
The Advertiser is waiting for a response from the local authority.
Not only does the sewage running down the road stink, it also poses a health threat.
