KAROO NEWS - Luchwayito (Lulu) Tshando (17) recently made her parents, Bongiwe Tshandu and Bulumko Nkowane, very proud. So much so that her mom, Bongi, who was born and bred in Hofmeyr, contacted Graaff-Reinet Advertiser to share their news.
"When I received the news that I have been selected for the u.17 SA team, I was totally overwhelmed and overcame with several different emotions. I was overjoyed, and I was crying at the same time," said the excited 17-year old learner.
Tshando attends Hangklip High School in Queenstown, where she is currently in Grade 11.
"I have been playing netball since Grade 3, and I have been dreaming for a long time to play this sport at the highest level," says the tall and fit Thando. "My dream was to play in the first team, and to get a sports bursary to eventually play in the first team for my university!"
She also dreams to represent her province and eventually the country.
"My dreams are finally coming true and now I have new ones to fulfill. I am being coached by Jalé Thomas, who stems from another small Eastern Cape town, Tarkastad, but now lives in Komani, and coaches my school's netball first team. I would also like to acknowledge my local team coaches, Vuyo Kedama and Siya Mselana, as well as my South African team coach, Talja Venter and assistant coach, Yolandi Stone."
Tshando needs public contributions and donations to assist her to attend the Dubai netball tour where she will be participating in November.
She was also selected, amongst other players, to be part of the Sportweni netball team in March next year.
