GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - A statement has been issued by Capt. Khaya Tonjeni, provincial police spokesperson, in connection with the vicious attack that took place at a house on the corner of Cradock Street and Park Street on 29th September.
Graaff Reinett SAPS responded to a scene where an elderly couple was allegedly attacked during the early hours of the morning, while they were sleeping.
The elderly lady, who is disabled, was found on their bed.
She was taken to Midland Hospital by ambulance, and according to the police, at 4pm she was in a critical but stable condition.
The body of the man, thought to be in his late 70s, was found in a pool of blood on the floor of their bedroom.
According to a local source, he had been stabbed 14 times on his body.
The suspect broke a window pane in the kitchen to gain entry to the house. The police are unable to ascertain at this stage if anything was stolen.
The police cannot speculate on the weapon used or the cause of the attack, as it all forms part of the investigation.
