COOKHOUSE NEWS - Cookhouse Police have arrested a 31-year-old man who transported alcohol in contravention of Covid-19 regulations.
The Cookhouse Police on route patrol and Community Service Centre members were informed on Tuesday 26 January 2021 that a white VW Caddy bakkie travelling near Cookhouse, had alcohol on board.
The driver of the vehicle tried to evade the police when confronted, but the bakkie was eventually stopped on the N10 outside the town. The driver attempted to run away, but was apprehended.
The police recovered 406 bottles of alcohol, boxes and silver bags of wine, informally referred to as papsakke. A total of 802 liters of alchohol with an estimated street value of R20 000 were found, but at black market “lockdown prices” it could be much more.
The man was to appear in the Somerset East Magistrates Court.
