GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — There was great excitement last week in Graaff-Reinet when Lester Moos, campus manager of the East Cape Midlands TVET college, appeared on SABC 2’s long-running Noot vir Noot show on Thursday evening.
This episode was recorded last September, and Lester travelled to Johannesburg for the show, supported by family members from Graaff-Reinet and Port Elizabeth.
Lester started well and was in the lead for the first few rounds.
However, he experienced something of a slump around the middle of the show, and another contestant surged ahead, leading by almost R2 000 at one point.
Throughout the show, the contestants are unaware of their scores (which are displayed to the audience), and this adds to the tension for the contestants. Lester admitted to being surprised when he was one of the two contestants through to the head-to-head climax of the show, as he thought that the young man from Cape Town had overtaken him in the middle section.
The last game, where contestants have to identify a song from only the first few notes played by the music group, was where Lester really came into his own, hitting the buzzer first for all four songs.
He said that this has always been the game that he has most enjoyed when watching the show at home, and his broad musical knowledge stood him in good stead. Despite starting the last round over R2 000 behind, Lester came out on top, with an impressive total prize money of R8 800.
In the final countdown round, where the winner has to identify four songs from their introductions, against the clock, Lester came very close to success, getting one title wrong by just one word!
The first show was recorded on a Monday, and after winning his way to the semi-final, Lester was asked to stay on in Johannesburg until the Thursday, for the semi-final recording.
This show will be aired in March.
All in all, Lester thoroughly enjoyed the experience, meeting the presenters and crew who were extremely professional, and would encourage anyone who is interested to audition for the show.
