GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The members of the Lions Club of Graaff-Reinet came together to volunteer their time at the local Pick n Pay from 13 to 15 July.
Their participation in the food collection for FoodForward SA forms part of the nationwide initiative launched by FoodForward, in partnership with Pick n Pay, Lions and Nelson Mandela Day.
The nationwide in-store collection weekend formed part of the larger objective, to raise 1 000 000 meals in July this year.
Upon entering the store, customers were handed a packet which had a list of 14 grocery items on the back that they could purchase and donate.
The customers would then place whichever item(s) they were prepared to purchase and donate in the packet they received, and then drop the packet in the donation bin when exiting.
At the end of the food collection weekend, an amazing 741.8kg of food had been donated by the Graaff-Reinet public.
Pick n Pay and Lions thank the community for their stellar support of this initiative.
