GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The community of Nxuba was notified recently that only one ambulance will be available until middle January next year.
In response, community leader, Petrus Plaatjies, asked people to be prepared.
"If you are pregnant, remember that it is not an emergency. So, the moment when that first pain appears, see to it that you get to a hospital. Don't delay.
"There certainly are other cases that will necessitate an ambulance, but the community has to learn to make other plans and those plans may come at a cost," he stated.
If the only ambulance has left town to take patients to Gqeberha, or should the ambulance be needed on the scene of an accident or be on its way to a farm, the community will have to learn to think out of the box.
"We cannot afford to lose more people to death, due to poor service delivery."
Plaatjies asked the community to prepare for the possibility that the call centre in Komani may be moved to Bisho in the near future.
"Stay informed," he urged. "Act in advance and do not wait until it is too late. Better be safe than sorry."
