EASTERN CAPE NEWS - The Abraham Kriel Children’s home in Nylstroom is an NPO rendering residential care services to 230 children who are in need of care and protection.
“Amy Bell Charities reached out to this children’s home, and they were invited to visit the Eastern Cape, where our organisation sponsored a few outings for these children,” says Irvin Tam, director of Amy Bell Charities in Cradock.
The journey
The bus with learners arrived in Cradock on 29 November after a long drive and were served sandwiches and cold cool drink at the Amy Bell Centre in Cradock, from where their next stop was at Paterson.
The Amy Bell Angels in Port Elizabeth, under the leadership of Irvin Tam, had arranged for accommodation for each young “tourist” from Nylstroom.
Various outings
On the third day the children went to Crossways Farm Village by bus for a day filled with excitement.
“Too many choices, too little time!” said Tam.
When in PE, a visit to the beach is a must, and the children had a lovely day on the beach in Summerstrand, ending the day with games and competitions on the beach.
The children also had a training session in first aid, presented by Hugo and Tiaan Barendse, who travelled all the way from Cradock to PE to present the training.
The children could play with the paramedic dolls and learn to do CPR - and were allowed to play on the NMU sports grounds.
The group left the following day for Cape Vidal Nature Reserve but, finding they were too early and it was still closed, enjoyed a different kind of sightseeing: a beautiful sunrise and dolphins playing in the surf.
After breakfast, they visited Gravity Baywest Entertainment Park, where the children had to leave their shoes in a trolley before using the entertainment offered. “Imagine having to sort out 75 pairs of shoes after the visit!” said Tam.
A karaoke night, organised by Amy’s Angels, had the children enthusiastically singing along and having a good time.
Nine fun days
The group returned o Nylstroom after nine fun-filled days in the Eastern Cape.
The Abraham Kriel Children’s Home extended their appreciation to the Amy Bell Charities for making this adventure holiday possible.
