STEYTLERVILLE NEWS – The Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality is applying for environmental authorisation for a waste disposal facility in the Rietbron/Steytlerville area from the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs And Tourism in the Eastern Cape.
This is in compliance with and fulfilment of provisions in Schedule 1 (Section 19) Category A, Activity Listed Number 10 & 02, of Government Gazette 449 Promulgated in Government Gazette No. 37714 published on June 2, 2014 in terms of National Environmental Management: Waste Act No. 59 of 2008: Waste Management Activity:
The disposal of general waste to land covering an area of more than 50m2 but less than 200m2 and with a total capacity not exceeding 25000 tons.
• The sorting, shredding, grinding, crushing, screening or bailing of general waste at a facility that has an operational area in excess of 1000m2.
The approval of such an application is subject to input from interested and affected parties.
All inputs regarding this application must be submitted to the Project Team and to the Regulatory Authorities, who will consider the comments during the decision-making process.
