GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Vuyani Safe Haven's board of directors identified the renovation and upgrading of the Child and Youth Care Centre (Children's Home) in Graaff-Reinet, as the main goal to further improve the quality of the services rendered.
Riana van der Ahee, spokesperson for Vuyani, said they can reach a much wider audience through social media than only appealing to already over-stretched local funders. "That is why we conceived the Buy-a-Brick internet campaign," she said.
Volunteers from the Northern Hemisphere have been visiting Vuyani for many years during their summer holidays. These volunteers fundraised on behalf of Vuyani for the most pressing needs at the children's home.
However, Covid-19 interrupted most of these efforts.
The Vuyani Buy-a-Brick concept hopes to overcome these challenges.
The project is the online sale of virtual bricks, and all the profits raised will be used to renovate and extend the Vuyani house.
Each virtual brick has the monetary value equal to actual building costs.
Once all the virtual bricks are sold, Vuyani will have enough funds to complete the necessary renovations.
