GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The South African Police Services recently embarked on a 3-day vaccination drive. The roll-out formed part of the national drive to ensure the vaccination of front line officers and support staff.
The local police academy in Graaff-Reinet was identified as a vaccination site and included the vaccination of local police officers, management, administrative staff and other support staff such as interns and reservists.
The roll-out was done in partnership with the local Department of Health in the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality.
The Government’s roll-out strategy is targeted at reaching about 230 000 people a day. Thousands of frontline officers in law enforcement should be prioritised as they are daily exposed to infection when executing their duties.
According to Graaff-Reinet Cluster Communication Officer, Bradley Rawlington, SAPS has embarked on this drive to enhance efforts to encourage everybody to get vaccinated "as it is the right thing to do."
The roll-out went well without any incidents reported and is paving the way for other law enforcement agencies like traffic and correctional services to follow suit and vaccinate their officials as the pandemic is continuing on its path of devastation in South Africa.
