GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The community is proud to celebrate the outstanding matric achievements of Emma Short, who achieved an exceptional eight distinctions in the 2025 IEB matric examinations.
Her distinctions were in the subjects accounting, Afrikaans first additional language, English home language, history, life orientation, life sciences, mathematics and further studies mathematics standard (calculus and algebra).
Emma is the daughter of David and Kirsten Short. She began her schooling at Union High School before heading to Makhanda in Grade 8 to attend the Diocesan School for Girls (DSG), continuing a proud family legacy.
Her father, David (OA ’91), uncle Lloyd (OA ’93) and grandfather Arthur (OA ’64) all attended St Andrew’s College, sister school to DSG.
Beyond academics, Emma was an enthusiastic participant in school life, excelling in both dance and tennis.
She represented DSG in the first tennis team in 2024 and 2025, received half-colours for dance in 2025, and contributed meaningfully to the school community as a member of the Sacristans.
Emma’s achievements reflect her dedication, versatility and commitment, and she is a source of great pride to her family and the wider Graaff-Reinet.
