GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Recent NMMU grad Saira Obaray joined the team at the Graaff-Reinet Advertiser a couple of weeks ago.
The paper has since published numerous freelance pieces written by Obaray.
As a general assignment freelance reporter, she said she is excited about working on “anything that makes the community more aware and more close-knit than they already are.”
Obaray graduated with a BA degree in Media and Communications from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in 2016, majoring in languages, and currently resides in Graaff-Reinet.
Originally from East London, Obaray moved to Graaff-Reinet in 2008 and attended Union High School for a couple of years, completing her high school career in Grahamstown as a border at Kingswood College.
Wanting to pursue a career in writing she decided to offer her services to the Graaff-Reinet Advertiser - the town's local newspaper - because of the variety it offers.
“I like that it’s ever-changing,” Obaray said.
“I like getting to know people more,” she said. “I think everybody has an interesting story whether they think they do or not.”
“We are excited to have Saira on board,” said editor Mariëtte Burger. "She is a great addition to our team."
Say “hello” to Obaray when you spot her out in the community and look for her stories in the Graaff-Reinet Advertiser.
