ABERDEEN NEWS - A 19-year-old robber was sentenced to eight years in jail by the local regional court on Monday 6 February.
Vernon Goeieman was found guilty of robbery with aggravated circumstances and will be in jail for the entire eight years as no part of the sentence was suspended.
The sentence follows after Goeieman robbed a woman of her groceries at knifepoint on 22 March last year. The woman was on her way home when she was stopped and threatened by two men.
The men fled with her belongings. She immediately reported the matter to the Aberdeen Police and since she knew Goeieman, the man who threatened her with a knife, the police found both attackers in Lotusville, Aberdeen soon after the attack.
They were arrested and some of the stolen items were recovered.
The case against the second man was later withdrawn, but the swift action of the police ensured that Goeieman was convicted.
