GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Four people were killed on Thursday afternoon, 19 July, on the R63 between Graaff-Reinet and Murraysburg when a VW Microbus overturned about 11km from Graaff-Reinet.
It is alleged that the driver of the vehicle, which was travelling towards Graaff-Reinet, lost control and the vehicle left the road, breaking through a fence and hitting a telephone pole before overturning.
The accident happened at approximately 14:00. Three of the six passengers were thrown out of the vehicle and died at the scene. They were Wilfred Themba Mandla (68 years) from Paarl; Ntsuku Eunice Mandla (64 years) from Cape Town and Nonsikilelo Patience Duze (63 years), also from Cape Town.
The remaining injured passengers were taken to Midland Hospital in Graaff-Reinet, and sadly one elderly lady, 84-year-old Mpumla Agrinette Nonkasa from Cape Town, died on the way to the hospital.
One man, the driver of the vehicle, remains in a serious condition, and a woman suffered minor injuries.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened.
