GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - As the end of February drew to a close, so too did an extraordinary chapter in the life of Union High School in Graaff-Reinet.
Unionites paused to honour Donald Kingwill, who retired as estate manager of the school after 27 years.
Kingwill has shaped the school for nearly three decades with his steady and faithful presence on the grounds, tending to the grounds and facilities with pride and care.
His work extended beyond buildings and fields to create a space where generations of learners could grow, compete and belong. This space was his pride and joy.
During Assembly on 27 February, the school paid a very special farewell tribute to him and afterwards, all staff and learners formed a guard of honour to thank him.
Kingwill was invited to ring the Centenary Bell and its clear notes echoed across the grounds he has cared for so faithfully.
