KAROO NEWS - In news from the surrounding towns in the Graaff-Reinet SAPS Cluster, the most serious was one of rape, in Jansenville.
A 27-year-old woman was at her home in Brickfields location, sleeping after heavy drinking, at about 13:55 on 9 February.
She woke up when her sister entered the room and started shouting, and it was then that she realised that the suspect had sexually penetrated her.
The 40-year-old man, who is known to the complainant, got up and ran away.
A case of assault GBH was also opened in Jansenville, and this also happened in Brickfields. On 8 February, at 19:45, a 30-year-old woman was struck on the head with a metal water pipe. Her attacker, a 47-year-old man, is known to the victim.
There was a business burglary in Willowmore at the Golf Club, during the night of 9 September. Someone damaged a sliding door to get into the building but fled when the alarm was activated.
Fortunately, nothing was taken, but the damage to the door is estimated to be about R15 000.
A man was arrested for robbery in Somerset East. A 25-year-old woman was walking home from town at about 12:00 on 11 February when a man, who she did not know, broke a bottle in front of her. He then demanded her bag, which contained two cell phones. The victim was assisted by members of the community, and the suspect was arrested.
In Pearston, a microwave worth R2 000 was stolen from a house in Voortrekker Street after the putty surrounding a window was removed. This happened at about 14:00 on 8 February. There are no suspects at this stage.
Finally, there were two cases reported from Aberdeen.
The first, of residential burglary, occurred sometime between 8 February and 11 February. On his return to the property at 07:30 on 11 February, the 53-year-old owner found the kitchen window broken, and a PlayStation 2 had been removed from its place of safekeeping. A clock radio was taken from the bedroom and R200 in cash. The total value of the stolen items is about R 1 300.
Damage estimated at R15 000 was caused to a woman’s car parked in Kareeboom Street, Lotusville on 8 February. At 16:55, while the 33-year-old woman was chatting with a friend, her husband burst into the room and accused her of wrongfully discussing him. He became violent and started damaging items of value in the house, as well as her car. A case of malicious damage to property has been opened.
