GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — On Thursday, 10 May the churches of Graaff-Reinet held a combined Ascension Day service.
It was held at the Methodist Church in Umasizakhe. Congregants from different churches came together in unity, praise and prayer, while the clergy of different congregations participated in the service.
Pastor Dolan Cochrane from the Assemblies of God welcomed the faith community of Graaff-Reinet.
Pastor Richard Bremmer from Karoo Community Church and Frans Booysen of UCC held the opening prayers. Worship was led by the Methodist Church music team.
The scripture reading was done in Afrikaans and English by ministers Petrus Gysman from the VGK and Mark Marais from the Anglican Church and in Xhosa by elder Virginia Mcinga of the VGK.
Rev Clement Madeley from the Methodist church brought the message from Acts 1:1-11.
He spoke about the power of Love that can bring true change to a world hungry for power.
Dr Ben van Tonder from the NG Church Graaff-Reinet, Minister Petrus Gysman and Ann Rundel did prayers of intercession for the community of Graaff-Reinet, Africa and the world.
The assembly closed with the following hymn: "It is well with my soul; Dit is wel met my siel; Kuhle ke moya wam."
