JANSENVILLE NEWS - Excellent work by the Jansenville Crime Prevention members resulted in the arrest of two suspects, aged 34 and 39, and the recovery of an illegal 9mm firearm, 21 live rounds of ammunition and a large amount of abalone in Bridge Street, Jansenville on Friday 6 August at 05:35.
Jansenville Crime Prevention members were conducting patrols, ensuring compliance to the Disaster Management Act Regulations, when they stopped two Nissan Almera sedans.
On approaching the vehicles they notice a total of 39 black plastic bags, which contained a large amount of abalone. After a further search an illegal 9mm firearm and live rounds of ammunition were recovered from where it was hidden.
The estimated street value of the abalone is approximately R432 000.
The suspects are currently in police custody and will appear in the Jansenville Magistrates Court soon.
Jansenville Station Commander, Captain Pieter Erasmus, applauded the excellent team effort and said the police members must be operationally ready to act to any situation that may arise.
