GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — In a recent meeting held by the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality in Ward 3 (Asherville) and Ward 14 (Asherville, Santaville and Extension 455) municipal officials explained the municipality's five-year Integrated Development Plan (IDP) to the residents.
Both Wards were accommodated at the same well-attended meeting at the Narsingstraat Primary School hostel.
During the meeting, some of the residents expressed concern about the implementation of the IDP, due to the severe financial constraints being faced by the Municipality. If projects are not being funded, then jobs are not being created.
Other issues raised included:
• Speed humps were urgently required on sections of Vink Street and other busy streets.
• The long-term lease of sport and recreation facilities required urgent review. There were allegations that lessees were not paying any rent.
• Maintenance was a serious issue at the Kollie Koeberg sports complex and the facility has deteriorated drastically.
•The Municipality must address the issue of its vehicles being abused by incompetent and unauthorised drivers, as well as some of them being under the influence of liquor while driving municipal vehicles.
