KAROO NEWS & VIDEO - To get fit, or get fat? This is a challenge facing many staying at home during lockdown, where the temptation is to overeat, binge-eating on home-made cakes and other delights, whilst lazing around the house.
Many people are also in the situation of having to do all their own housework for the first time in a while, and the good news is that housework can help you stay fit, and burn off some of those excess kilojoules.
According to an article in the British newspaper The Sun, if you mopped the floor, vacuumed, dusted and washed the dishes all in one go, you could burn off an entire large slice of pizza!
When you are sweeping and dusting, play some favourite music, the faster, the better - not only will you move faster, but it acts as a great distraction and improves your mood.
Get vigorous in the kitchen, and chop and grate and beat and knead, using muscle power instead of small appliances.
Work it out by sweeping it out.
Don't sit down for a phone chat, get up and walk around, preferably outdoors. Or try standing on one leg, to improve your balance. For those who are missing the gym, get creative, and use a bag of sugar as a weight for squats and arm lifts.
Watch a video below:
Cleaning windows is great exercise for the arms - make sure to use both arms alternately, and make big sweeping circles with the cloth. Reach up high to stretch your back, and squat down to dip your cloth in the water rather than bend.
Let us know if these work for you, and send us your ideas too!
No weights? No problem, sugar.
