LIFESTYLE NEWS - Here are some quick snacks that your child can take to school.
They are convenient, easy to prepare and sometimes involve no preparation whatsoever.
Best of all is that they are healthy and delicious to eat.
Fruit is an easy snack - Fruit such as apples, grapes, bananas and pears are really easy to eat and are loaded with vitamins as well as fibre. Be sure to give the apple or pear a good wash before placing in your child’s lunchbox.
Dried fruits - Dried fruits such as raisins, apples and apricots are tasty and flavoursome. Keep a lookout for the ones without sulphur dioxide preservative, if available.
Yoghurt - Kids love the mini tubs of yoghurt that are sold at most supermarkets. Don’t forget to send a spoon!
Dried muesli bar - Dried muesli bars make a divine snack. If you cannot make your own at home, try to find some sugar-free ones at your local supermarket.
Raw or roasted nuts - Raw or roasted nuts are a great snack to pack for your child if they are not allergic to nuts and if their school allows you to send nuts as a snack. It may not be advisable for children who are under five years of age as they may choke - however chat to your child’s school regarding this. Opt for unsalted nuts where possible.
