GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - At a prayer session for rain in Umasizakhe, a local church leader claimed that God is punishing Graaff-Reinet with drought, because of the discord and fighting between residents of the town.
The session was called by the office of the local mayor, Deon de Vos and ministers' fraternal, on Sunday 17 November at 2pm on the Umasizakhe Sports Field. The fraternal asked the people to unite and to stop fighting.
Approximately 150 people attended the event.
The invitation signed by De Vos and Bishop Godfrey Hyalolo stated that the scarcity of rain in the area has become a crisis that affects communities. "It is about time we invite God to rescue us from this natural disaster." it read.
Hyalolo told the crowd that they called the town together to unite in prayer. "It's raining in surrounding towns, but not in Graaff-Reinet," he said. Bishop Andrew Bantom said it was a wonderful privilege to come together. He said God will provide rain.
Several individuals were allowed to lead the gathering in prayer, while church groups sang songs of praise.
