GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — There are two cases of interest to report from Aberdeen.
In a residential burglary on 30 June, the complainant left his home at about 19:0, and all was locked up and in order. Upon his return the next day at about 04:00 he went to bed. When he woke up later in the morning, he noticed that his safe was open and his firearm, a Luger 38 Special Revolver was missing. A suspect has been arrested and the firearm recovered.
The second incident took place at Noni Street, Thembalesizwe. The suspect entered the victim's home armed with a panga, and took money out of the victim's pocket. The victim managed to flee, but in doing so, he sustained injuries to his hand.
The suspect, who has been arrested, also took money out of a cupboard in victim's residence. The total amount taken was R5 000.
There was a business robbery in Graaff-Reinet on 3 July at about 19:20. Two suspects entered a shop (one armed with a knife) and managed to get away with a cash register containing R9000. The incident took place in Springbok Street, Kroonvale. Although they have not yet been arrested, the suspects can be identified by the complainant. This case is still under investigation.
One man was killed in an accident on the Cradock road, about 50km from Graaff-Reinet. A tyre burst on the vehicle, and it overturned. One passenger was thrown from the vehicle, and he passed away at the scene of the accident. The driver and a female passenger both sustained slight injuries and were taken to Midland Hospital for treatment. The accident happened on 7 July at about 14:22.
There was also a case of fraud in Graaff-Reinet. The complainant deposited an amount of R1 890 into an account at Capitec Bank in Caledon Street on 6 July between 09:13 and 09:25. Only afterwards did he realise that it was a scam, and then reported the incident to the police. The suspect has not yet been arrested, an investigation into the case continues.
