ABERDEEN NEWS - A 19-year-old girl was raped during the afternoon of Saturday, 23 February, after being forced into a house whilst walking home.
The teenager was returning to her home in Lotusville when a man called her to ask for a cigarette. He then forced her to go inside his friend’s house.
When she tried to stop him, he became aggressive and as they went into the house, she called out to the friend for help, but he ignored her.
Her attacked then forced her to go in the toilet and take off her clothes.
According to the young woman, he then raped her, and afterwards forced her to wipe herself. She then went outside and ran away. The police are investigating the case, but no arrests have yet been made.
Other crime news
Apart from the rape, there were two business burglaries, one case of theft, and one of malicious damage to property reported to Aberdeen police in the last week.
On 16 February at about 17:00, the suspect in the malicious damage to property case arrived at the complainant’s home and started to swear at him. When the complainant went inside to fetch his pepper spray, the suspect picked up a music box, which was standing outside, playing music, and threw it at the complainant.
The value of the damaged property is R1 750. The suspect has not yet been arrested.
The theft took place on 26 February between 10:55 and 11:30 in Lotusville. According to the complainant, she was informed by her domestic worker that her (the complainant’s) son was in the garage during her absence. When she checked the video footage of her security cameras, she saw the suspect breaking the padlock on the freezer and taking meat from it.
The suspect has been arrested.
An arrest has also been made in one of the business burglary cases. The complainant alleges that he received a phone call on 27 February at about 11:58 to say that his premises in Lotusville had been broken into. Upon his arrival, he found SAPS members already on the scene with a suspect in custody. SAPS members informed him that they found the suspect inside the house with a bag containing liquor and a laptop charger.
The suspect had gained entrance to the premises by breaking the lock.
On 3 March at about 21:30 the complainant in the second business burglary left his spaza shop to visit a friend, and when he returned at about 23:20 the same day, he noticed the back window was open. When he went through the shop, he noticed that the till (worth R4 000) was missing, as well as about R1000 cash.
The complainant watched the footage from his CCTV camera and saw someone putting his arm through the window to take the till.
The suspect had identification marks on his arm and hand which will assist with his identification. The case is still under investigation.
As well as the two arrests mentioned above, six people were arrested for being drunk and disorderly.
Three convictions were secured in the Aberdeen magistrate’s court.
For common robbery, the accused was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment, of which 9 months is suspended for five years.
