ABERDEEN NEWS - Anita Swanepoel, a former Grade One teacher at Aberdeen Full Service Primary School, started her well-deserved retirement this month after 37 years in education.
Swanepoel started her teaching career in Dordrecht in the Eastern Cape, then moved to Willowmore before starting at the then Aberdeen Primary School in 2004.
Initially, she taught Afrikaans, but was a class teacher for Grade One during the last three years.
As her home is still in Willowmore, she stayed in the school hostel during the week, and was the hostel's superintendent for the last eight years. She was meticulous in checking that all the facilities were up to standard.
During her early years at the school, she was involved in sport, particularly hockey and athletics.
She was also a member of the School Management Team, and responsible for overseeing the school's feeding scheme.
The school recently held a farewell function in her honour, where she was presented with a framed certificate for her loyal service to education. In January next year, Swanepoel will move to Cape Town to join her family.
The Aberdeen community wishes her a long and happy retirement.
