KAROO NEWS - A total of 120 drivers have been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in sting operations across the province over the past 2 weekends.
Unathi Binqose, spokesperson for the Department of Transport, says that 51 of these arrests were over the past weekend alone, with Sarah Baartman District Municipality and Amathole District Municipality all reaching double figures in the number of arrests.
Transport MEC, Xolile Nqatha has commended the officers for the arrests saying their efforts may have saved dozens of innocent lives from possible crashes including the lives of those arrested themselves.
MEC Nqatha warns motorists that these sting operations will only intensify as the department gear up for the upcoming Festive Season.
