GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Women Empowerment Forum of Graaff-Reinet's Social Development Services recently put smiles on the faces of the children of Thembalethu Aftercare Centre in Kroonvale.
The centre caters for 22 children between Grade One and Grade Seven.
On Wednesday 30 October, the Social Development personnel, who are part of the Women Empowerment Forum, handed out gift packets with sweets, learning material and toys to Thembalethu's personnel.
At the event, Marinda van Vuuren, Social Development Services clerk, said they strive to help en serve the community. She thanked Regina Bosman, principal of the aftercare centre, for their hard, selfless and voluntary work.
Bosman said they do the work out of love for the children. "It's not easy. We don't get grants and sometimes have to buy food and material out of our own pockets, even though we don't receive salaries," she said.
According to Bosman, all the children show good academic progress. "We emphasise reading, mathematics, and writing. The children's progress inspires us as staff," she said.
