ABERDEEN NEWS - During the course of last Thursday night, three houses were broken into in Aberdeen.
For an unfortunate resident in Cathcart Street, it was the second break-in in two months.
The first occurred when she was away, just before lockdown. In that case, when the domestic worker arrived at the house, she found the doors unlocked, but there was no sign of forced entry, and nothing appeared to have been taken.
In the recent case, however, the householder awoke hearing noises in the house shortly after 1am, but went back to sleep, thinking it was probably just the wind. In the morning, she found that the front door had been opened (with no sign of damage), and the security gate forced open. On investigation she discovered that tools, a CD player and speakers had been taken from a locked bakkie in the garage, and food from the freezer in the kitchen.
According to police spokesperson Capt Lariane Jonker, the other two cases were in Lotusville, from unoccupied houses. One owner is currently staying in Despatch, and the other in Cape Town. In both of these incidents, electrical equipment was stolen, most of which has since been recovered.
All three cases are still under investigation.
