GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — The Graaff-Reinet Residents' and Ratepayers' Association (GRRPA) sends out a regular newsletter by email to its members and other interested parties, and in the April issue, various matters were raised of particular interest.
Members were encouraged to attend the Mayoral Outreach meeting for information about the 2018/2019 budget for the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality.
As pointed out in the newsletter, low attendance at meetings can be interpreted as satisfaction with the current level of municipal services.
The proposed increases for municipal services were given, and these will be dealt with in more detail in the Advertiser once they have been finalised.
At this stage, the increases will be: property tax 6%, water 6%, sewage 6%, refuse 7% and electricity 7%. The proposed increase in the salaries of municipal employees is 6%.
Cypress Grove residents were thanked for attending a previous meeting of the GRRPA, and after the visit of the municipal manager to the area in February, a temporary steel structure was placed under the bridge to prevent it from collapsing.
Members were encouraged to follow the Association's Facebook page (GRRPA) for events and issues, and it was noted that posts were also made on behalf of the Association on the Graaff-Reinet Neighbourhood Watch facebook group.
