GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - A Nieu-Bethesda policeman was stabbed with a knife while arresting a housebreaking suspect.
The incident happened at about 11:00 on Wednesday 26 February.
The policeman received medical attention on the scene.
Police spokesperson, Captain Bradley Rawlinson, said Nieu-Bethesda policemen were investigating recent housebreaking and theft cases in Nieu-Bethesda when information led them to the residence of a 21-year-old suspect.
“Two police officials approached the suspect at the residence. He became aggressive, took a knife from his pocket and stabbed one policeman in his upper arm,” Rawlinson said.
The suspect was arrested and appeared in the Graaff-Reinet Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 27 February. He remains in custody.
