GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Two police officials who are facing charges of theft and possession of suspected stolen property, were released on R500 bail each in the Graaff Reinet Magistrate's court on Thursday 18 January. The case was postponed to Friday 23 February.
The arrest follows a week-long investigation by a team of detectives from Provincial Anti-Corruption.
Armed with a search warrant, the team searched the private residences of the two police officers from the Stock Theft and Endangered Species unit, where state property to the value of more than R1mil was found and confiscated.
Among the items that were found were sets of brand new tyres, a freezer, fridge and diesel generators.
"There is no space for corrupt officials within the ranks of the police. We have taken a zero tolerance approach in ensuring that we clamp down on those who are in conflict with the law," said Provincial Commissioner Lt-Gen Nomthetheleli Mene.
