GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Thirty people were arrested near Leeu Gamka on 8 December, after they looted an overturned truck that was transporting pet food.
According to Captain David de Klerk, police spokesperson for the Beaufort West SAPS, the driver lost control of the truck at around 8.30am, after which passers-by cut the canvas of the truck and stole pet food.
Thirty suspects made off with loot worth R120 000 in eight separate vehicles, only to be caught at a festive season roadblock near Beaufort West. All 30 suspects, between the ages of 18 and 30, were arrested and charged for theft and possession of stolen goods.
The suspects made their first court appearance on 9 December, and were released on bail to appear in court again on 7 February.
De Klerk warned people not to steal from vehicles that were involved in accidents, as no mercy will be shown to the thieves.
