NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS — The Salisbury Exchange programme is a unique opportunity that is afforded learners from Salisbury Cathedral School (SCS) in England and Union High in the Karoo.
During the first Summer term, SCS year seven learners come over to South Africa and Union learners then go over to the UK for their Summer term.
This is a wonderful opportunity for these 12-year-olds who are absorbed fully into the communities on opposite sides of the globe.
Nieu-Bethesda is proud to have had a remarkable number of its youngsters being selected to participate in this programme over the decades.
Jolynn Minnaar, James Sheard, Lynn Alleman, Peter Watermeyer, Bowen Langmead and Hannah Watermeyer have all been wonderful ambassadors to their little village. This year it is the turn of Jude Langmead who will live, play cricket and study under the hallowed shadows of Salisbury Cathedral.
Max Firth who comes from the little village of East Grimstead close to Salisbury, is currently living in Nieu-Bethesda with Jude's family during the weekends.
He has loved the freedom of walking barefoot, big blue skies and exploring the river in his free time. During the week he attends boarding school at Union High.
On Saturday evening at the Nieu-Bethesda Sports Club, it was lovely to see so many of the recent exchange students playing sport and enjoying each other's company.
