GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Situated at 87 Cradock Street, Vuyani Safe Haven is a registered Child and Youth Care Centre in Graaff-Reinet that provides safety and care for children whose families cannot or do not care adequately for them.
There have been some new developments at this centre these past couple of months.
The manager’s position, which has been vacant since January, has been filled.
Hildegarde Brummer, who acted as manager in the interim while also fulfilling her post as Vuyani’s social worker, was appointed as Vuyani’s new manager.
Hildegarde is a senior social worker with many years of experience. She started at Vuyani in 2012 and has made a huge difference in the professional services rendered to the children placed in Vuyani’s care.
A new social worker has been appointed to fill the void left by Hildegarde.
Chandré Rhoode qualified as social worker at the Nelson Mandela University. She was employed at Child Welfare from 2014 to 2017 after which she worked for the ACVV in George.
She is glad to be back in her hometown, where she matriculated at Spandau Seondary School, and the Vuyani team is delighted to welcome her to the fold.
Hildegarde and Chandré, together with Riana van der Ahee, Vuyani’s PR and Marketing Officer, and the two remedial teachers at the Vuyani Learning Centre, form a capable management team under the dedicated Board of Vuyani, to take the children’s home to the next level for the 36 children currently in care.
However, they cannot begin to fulfil this responsibility without the wonderful work of the caregivers, cleaners and driver.
The Department of Social Development contributes approximately 40% of the running costs of Vuyani Safe Haven, leaving the remainder of funding requirements, particularly salaries and infrastructure repairs and improvements, to be raised by way of support and donations from the public.
With the help of businesses and individuals locally, nationally and overseas, Vuyani Safe Haven continues to make ends meet and for this they are extremely grateful.
In 2017, Hildegarde Brummer completed a 2-year post graduate course in Addiction, at Stellenbosch University, with distinction.
However, as with many charitable organisations, Vuyani still operates within a tight budget.
With this in mind, Vuyani Safe Haven appeals to the public of Graaff-Reinet to consider assisting with financial support in whatever way they can. Vuyani Safe Haven is a registered PBO and is permitted to issue a Section 18A certificate which makes donations tax deductible.
