GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Last month the Dr Beyers Naudé Municipality once again pleaded poverty, claiming there is no money to replace vandalised street signs.
In Aberdeen many junctions have no stop signs at all. Others have become three-way stops, or have been left with just two signs on adjacent corners.
This has been an ongoing complaint for several years, with the recurring comment from the municipality that the local government's coffers are too empty to erect new signs.
So, residents were understandably extremely irate when three stop signs were used as direction signs on the temporary route to the municipal dumping ground in July. These signs were painted over with white paint, and arrows added.
"These three stop signs could have fixed at least one junction," said one frustrated resident.
The municipality failed to comment on the situation in time for print.
