GRAAFF-RENET NEWS - The Sarah Baartman District Municipality (SBDM) handed over donations in honour of Mandela Month to organisations in Graaff-Reinet. The handover took place on 31 July.
They donated 60 hampers to the elderly at the Veronica Masango Sobukwe Elderly Centre. Each hamper consisted of toiletries, a blanket, face masks and hand sanitiser.
The SBDM also donated a multifunction overlocking machine and an industrial sewing machine to a group of young men from Umasizakhe called Youth In Power. These men are currently making face masks and later hope to expand into clothing manufacturing.
"In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the SBDM handed over face masks and sanitisers to the Dr Beyers Naudé Municipality to enable them to better manage and reduce the spread of the virus," said Natasha Peterson, Spokesperson for the SBDM.
Peterson added that the SBDM urges the community to follow safety precautions such as regularly washing or sanitising their hands, always wearing a face mask and maintaining social distance and adhering to the current lockdown regulations.
