GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Following the success of the music trivia event in 2016, it was decided to hold another music trivia evening to raise funds for the DA's Dr Beyers Naudé Constituency in the build-up to the 2019 general elections.
Given that the first event was held in the Horseshoe in Graaff-Reinet, it was decided to book the Alex Laing Hall in Kroonvale for the function.
With only 48 hours to go, however, the organisers were advised of a clash with the Showville auditions at the same venue, at the same time.
Fortunately, they managed to secure the town hall at short notice and constituency leader Vicky Knoetze and Cllr Daniel Williams set up the hall for what turned out to be a wonderful event.
There were six teams in all, with names such as Team Ani Jik, Aberdeen+, Simply the Best, Peanuts, Young Guns and Team Rock My World.
The event was professionally run by Mike and Dave from Triple M Music Productions from Port Elizabeth and Bush Guest Lodge very kindly donated their accommodation for the night.
The games ranged from "Name the Artist" to "Name the film or TV show" and even which colour is present in the song title or artist's name.
The twelve rounds were fiercely competitive, but in the end Young Guns prevailed.
Knoetze had put together hampers for each person on the team with prizes sponsored by Garden Court Hotels, Hair.com and MadzMade.
MP Ross Purdon, organised Speakers Choice wines signed by Mmusi Maimane. Some of these were also given out as lucky draw prizes and a raffle hamper to the value of R800 was on offer.
On top of this, Cllr Linda Botha arranged an array of prizes from local donors.
Aside from Knoetze and her partner, other travellers included Cllr Leander Kruger from Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, his mom, Amore and Wayne Hart of Algoa FM – a huge fan of Graaff-Reinet and not surprisingly, very knowledgeable about music.
All participants brought their own food and drinks and, as the Dr Beyers Naude Constituency DA folk are never shy to party, there was plenty of dancing between rounds.
