MIDDELBURG NEWS — Hoërskool Middelburg recently received the South African Mathematics Olympiad Award, sponsored by Liberty, for the top achieving quintile 4 school for 2017.
Janico Snyman, a Grade 12 learner at MHS was the top achiever in this category. Janico is a top academic achiever and excels in especially mathematics. He is also enrolled in the IEB's (International Education Board) AdMaths' programme and is ranked second in the country with 95%. The top achiever obtained 96%.
This gala event was hosted on September 23 at the Krystal Beach Hotel in Gordon's Bay.
Mariaan Stannard, MHS principal, attended the ceremony and was presented with the award by Dr Vasuthavan Govender, President of the Association for Mathematical Education in South Africa.
Lizanne van der Merwe, mathematics educator at MHS, attended the provincial prize giving ceremony on September 28 in Port Elizabeth. She accepted the award on behalf of Janico who had to attend his matric farewell.
Janico is planning to continue his studies in Engineering at NWU in 2018.
