GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - A total of 43 arrests were made by Graaff-Reinet police during a successful week from 22 January to 29 January.
Three were for contravention of protection orders, two for selling liquor without a licence, three for possession of drugs and four on warrants of arrest.
There were 11 arrests for assault, of which seven were for assault GBH. Four suspects were arrested for house robbery, seven for housebreaking and theft, and two for robbery. One person was also arrested for shoplifting.
Two suspects were arrested for theft, and a further one for each offence of theft out of a motor vehicle and theft from a vehicle.
Finally, two suspects were arrested for being in possession of suspected stolen goods.
The week’s minor arrests were 11 for being drunk and disorderly, four for drinking in public, and seven for traffic violations.
Two convictions were secured in Graaff-Reinet.
A suspect who was accused of assault GBH and attempted rape was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for assault, but found not guilty on the charge of attempted rape.
The second sentence handed down, for theft, was two years, suspended for five years. The accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
An assortment of goods confiscations was recorded in Graaff-Reinet.
These include four wheelcaps, crushed Mandrax and tik drugs, a Samsung cellphone, a battery, two number plates, tools, a green hosepipe, and one tyre and rim.
