GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - After not seeing each other for over 80 days, Union Preparatory School’s teachers and learners got to ‘meet’ once again, when the school hosted a drive-through on 8 June.
Parents visited the school to fetch their children’s schoolwork packs, and the learners were happy to join, as their parents drove through the parking lot of Union’s Arthur Kingwill House. There, teachers were waiting dressed in fun costumes and with balloons.
Learners popped their heads out of the cars’ windows to say hello to their favourite teachers, to share (sanitised) notes, and some even showed teachers their pets — such as one Grade One learner’s lizard friend.
“We are more than school, we are a family,” said the school’s principal, Belinda Botha. "We’re really missing them. This was a small way to show our love to them," she added.
“We miss them tremendously,” Grade Three teacher Chanzelle Heunis agreed. "They’re really the fun part of this job. This was just to see their faces and to let them know that I’m going to be here for them no matter what."
