KAROO NEWS & VIDEO - A Geluksdal family was left with nothing when a fire destroyed their home in Strelitzia Street on Sunday 11 August.
Youngsters Harriet (13) and Frandoline (15) were unable to return to school on Monday because their school clothes and books were also destroyed. Harriet attends Graaff-Reinet Primary School and Frandoline is a learner at Asherville Secondary.
“We don’t have money to rebuild the house or to buy clothes or food. I only work two days a week,” said the children's mother, Beledine Babbers. She is the owner of the destroyed house.
Babbers, her friend Leentjie Jack and two visiting children (aged eight and 10), were sitting in front of the house at around 2pm when someone alerted them to the fire at the back of the house.
Within minutes, the shack at the back of the house burned to the ground, and the fire spread to the main house.
Babbers, her eldest child Le Roy (19), Harriet and Frandoline, are currently living in a friend's home.
