GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Alfred Kerkvliet, a born Australian who nowadays resides in the Netherlands, is visiting South Africa, specifically Graaff-Reinet, with his main goal, to bring joy to the children of Khanyisa.
Khanyisa is a rural area that forms part of Graaff-Reinet.
According to Kerkvliet, he visited South Africa a few years ago with his sister.
"I won tickets to visit SA and took my sister with me as she lost her husband and was going through a very rough time. The trip was made possible with the help of several people. Such as the train journey with the Pride of Africa from Johannesburg to Cape Town as one of the highlights. And yes, Khanyisa, it stole my heart! After my visit there, I decided that I would like to help, but how?"
Kerkvliet started writing about their trip through South Africa during his visit.
"I wrote about what we have experienced in this beautiful country that I have come to love and want to share and enthuse people to go there. Finally, after arriving home and deciphering my notes, I wrote my book, The Eye of Freedom, and decided to put it into print and sell it, saving the proceeds to donate to Khanyisa.
I had my trip planned for March 2020 but due to Covid, and after many changes after that, we can finally go after waiting two years.."
With the proceeds he made from selling his book, he bought, amongst other things, sportswear and stationary that he will be handing out in Khanyisa on the 14 March.
Some of the clothes he bought with the proceeds of the book for the children of Khanyisa.
