GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The woman who died in the horrific crash on Friday morning on the N9 between Graaff-Reinet and Aberdeen in which 22 other people were injured, has been identified as Zukiswa Basi (34) from Fish Hoek in Cape Town.
Five of the 22 injured were in a critical condition. A young woman was airlifted to Port Elizabeth by an Air Mercy Service helicopter and the other critical patients were transported there by departmental ambulance and Relay Emergency Medical Service.
The accident happened when a VW Polo crashed into the back of a Quantum minibus at 04:35.
The driver of the Polo, Kuruavone Nolan Nutenje, was treated under police guard in the Midlands hospital as the police suspect that he was driving under the influence at the time of the crash.
He has been discharged and is in custody awaiting trial. He has made his first court appearance and remains in custody until his bail hearing next week Tuesday.
