GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Since Wednesday 13 January until today, Friday 15 January, Graaff-Reinet resident Thinus Ferreira has measured 4mm rain at his home, bringing the total rainfall for January in the town to 28mm.
Although Graaff-Reinet, unlike other areas in the Karoo, has had relatively little rain, the water flowing down the Sundays River following the hail and rain storm in Nieu-Bethesda on Tuesday, should have a significant impact on the Nqweba Dam level.
The latest info as at Thursday 14 January supplied by the Department of Water and Sanitation states that the level of the Nqweba dam is at 11,2% compared to 0,4% last year. The storage capacity of the dam is 44,8 million cubic meters which means that at 11,2%, the dam currently holds more than 5 million cubic meters.
Thunder is on the cards for Graaff-Reinet today, with rain predicted for tomorrow, Saturday 16 January. The maximum temperature provided by the weather service for tomorrow is 28°C, while sunny skies are expected next week with more rain on Friday. With the exception of Steytlerville and Jansenville where no rain is predicted for next week, more or less the same weather pattern as in Graaff-Reinet is predicted for most towns in the Beyers Naude municipal district as well as for Cradock and Hofmeyr.
