KAROO NEWS - Local Karoo towns remain on the Covid-19 hotspot list, with nearly 500 active cases recorded in total in Graaff-Reinet, Aberdeen, Somerset East and Kirkwood.
"The Sarah Baartman District Municipality's District Command Council is concerned by the high Covid-19 cases in the district," said Municipal Spokesperson, Natasha Peterson, on behalf of the district municipality.
As of 25 November, Graaff-Reinet has 309 active cases and 41 deaths in total. Aberdeen has now recorded six Covid-19 related deaths, and the town has 38 active cases.
Somerset East has 68 active cases and 38 deaths, while Kirkwood has 50 active cases and 39 deaths in total.
"We urge all community members to take the necessary precaution at all times, as the district is a hotspot," Peterson added. These precautions include washing hands regularly with soap and water or an alcohol-based sanitiser, wearing a mask and maintaining social distance.
