GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Graaff-Reinet Police have issued a warning about 5 male fraudsters operating in the area.
The men, dressed in jeans, track suit pants and green or orange T-shirts, are providing free sim cards, doing sim swaps, and then skim their victims’ money from their bank accounts.
The con artists drive a blue Suzuki Swift with a GP numberplate.
According to police spokesperson Captain Bradley Rawlinson, the men pretend to represent different cellular networks promoting the company’s products, giving away free airtime and data.
They then give the unsuspecting customer a new sim card and promise activation within 24 hours.
They then use the old sim card to create a new banking pin granting them access to their victims’ accounts; transfer available funds and destroy the old sim card.
Needless to say, after 24 hours the new sim card is still without data or airtime.
If these men are seen, please contact the Graaff-Reinet Police on 10111 or 049 807 1106.
