GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Over the past weekend, eleven lights were reportedly stolen from the municipal storage facility in Graaff-Reinet.
A case has been opened and is currently under investigation.
Residents have been urged on social media to be on the lookout and come forward with any information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrator/s and the recovery of the stolen lights.
According to Ralton Salters, from the Eyona Fire & Security Services, there is 24-hour security at the particular storage facility. At this stage, it is not clear how the perpetrator/s managed to gain access to a facility where security guards were expected to be on site.
Salters reiterated his concern around the alleged exclusion of local small, medium and micro enterprises (SMME's) from the tender for the provision of security services, that was advertised on the Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality (DBNLM) website on 21 June.
At the time, Amos Mcinga, the spokesperson for the Service Delivery Movement (SDM), also stated that the tender specifications were not designed to promote local economic development but rather to exclude SMME's.
According to the security tender advertisement, the deadline for submission of tenders were 21 July at midnight and the tenders would have been opened in public immediately after. To date, no public announcement in this regard has been made.
