GRAAFF-REINET NEWS & VIDEO - Homeless people living at the Alexander Laing Hall during the Covid-19 lockdown, pass their time with games such as cards and dominoes.
The participants enjoy sitting outside, playing games, walking around and even doing some exercises. For many of them, life as they knew it when they were young is returning.
Kosie Dolleys (haven supervisor) and Lucricia Jackson (manager for the local havens) are on site, and often join the 'sportsmen' in playing dominoes and cards.
Micheal Lavies said the games are taking away all his negative thoughts and help him to cope with the situation.
Dan Simons came to the hall addicted to drugs and lost focus because of the withdrawal symptoms. He also could not speak. A week later, on 5 April, he performed like a champion on the dominoes table. Dolleys joined the games but was outplayed by Simons, who showed he is well on the way of recovering.
Henry Malgas said the domino games have helped him to make friends.
