HOFMEYR NEWS AND VIDEO - Londozwa Ntetha. The communities of Hofmeyr, Eluxolweni and Twinsville gathered in the Chris Hani Community Centre on Friday 28 April in honour of Freedom Day, celebrated annually on 27 April.
Community leaders gathered at the graves of late community leaders at sunrise for an hour of honour and prayers followed by a clean up of the grave sites and laying of stones.
The programme was opened by Yoliswa Mafilika and Wesiwe Landu, with Rev Lumko presenting the opening message and Prof Willem van Heerden of Phakama High School handling the opening devotions.
The proceedings included performances by the community choir, the Youth Centre Cobras, as well as the Masizame Dancers. A special presentation by the veterans was offered by Nzuzo Lumko and Welile Mafilika. The keynote speaker, Xola Masumpa, addressed the crowd late afternoon.
The proceedings ended with a prayer and a farewell message by Apostle Bettie Brown.
But the highlight of the day that everyone was waiting for was local artist Magcina Goddy Mbobi, who entertained the crowds till late.
